Key Control

Component Accountability & Governance | Ownership Field
Capability 1.2 Data ownership is established for both migrated and cloud-generated data
Control The Ownership Field in a data catalog must be populated for all sensitive data.
Drivers / Requirements Organizations have policies that require ownership for data that is classified as sensitive.
Legacy / On-Prem Challenges
  • 1. Significant amounts of legacy data do not have ownership recorded
  • 2. What is classified as sensitive data in an organization is very common. Typically organizations cannot provide the extra levels of control that is required for all of the sensitive data in their legacy environments.
Automation Opportunities The Ownership Field in a data catalog is required to be populated automatically for sensitive data that is migrated to or generated within the cloud. Trigger workflows to enforce population when new data assets are created.
Benefits A more secure environment for data since the infrastructure enforces the requirements.
Summary Infrastructure that requires data ownership on sensitive data drives policy compliance.
