The Data Management Accountability Matrix is a construct<\/span> for identifying the stakeholder<\/span> types across the data ecosystem and the high-level roles and the relationships between the stakeholder<\/span> types.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Construct<\/span> <\/strong>– a generic representation of a concept unencumbered by unique characteristics of an industry or organization. The construct<\/span> is used by an organization to inform the design of a customized model<\/span> for execution. The customization takes into account the size, complexity, geography, and culture of the organization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Business – Technology<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The data ecosystem within an organization or even in an individual business domain<\/span> is a complex network of processes and stakeholders – Business and Technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stakeholder<\/span> <\/strong>– an individual or group<\/span> engaged in a data ecosystem that is vested in either the creation or consumption of the ecosystem data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is useful to categorize the stakeholders at a high level as business and technology functions, however, there are important subgroups in each of those categories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The blue section of the diagram contains those business-oriented stakeholders focused on the Business Element<\/span>. Conversely, the orange section is those Technology-oriented stakeholders focused on the Data Element<\/span>. The pivotal bridge between the two foci is the data architecture function<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SME and Data Requirements<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The first column of the diagram contains three types of business process<\/span> domain<\/span> stakeholders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Business Process<\/span> <\/strong>– every business process<\/span> domain<\/span> is a data producer<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Data Consumers <\/strong>– some business process<\/span> domains are also data consumers. They consume data from another business process<\/span> domain<\/span> as an input to their business process<\/span>. During the execution of their process<\/span>, the consumed data is used in the process<\/span> and may be transformed or used to derive new data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Data Analysis <\/strong>– a specific type of data consumer<\/span> for the data analysis processes. This can be simple data analytics and reporting, more formal business intelligence or highly sophisticated data science processes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All three types of business process<\/span> domains across the ecosystem impose What requirements on the business process<\/span> and data of the data producer<\/span>. These requirements must integrate into the dataset captured in the data producer<\/span>’s business processes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Technology Management<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The third column of the diagram contains two technology process<\/span> stakeholders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Technology Architecture<\/span><\/strong> – responsible for how the requirements across the ecosystem are achieved by the technical environment structure and design.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Application Technology<\/strong> – responsible for how the design, build and run activities of the technical environment meets the ecosystem requirements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Data Management<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The center column of the diagram contains the drivers of the data management process<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Business Data Management <\/strong>– the business-aligned function<\/span> accountable for facilitation across the business stakeholders to define and govern the Business Element<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Technology Data Management<\/strong> – the technology-aligned function<\/span> accountable for facilitation across the technology stakeholders to achieve the Business Element<\/span> requirements through the technology environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Data Architecture<\/span><\/strong> – the bridge between the Business Element<\/span> requirements and the Data Element<\/span> execution accountable to provide the framework to organize the data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
